There is no need to sugar coat today or the days leading up to it.
That was definitely an intentional Nazi salute we saw from Elon. And I most certainly have to walk back on my "aww gee, what a great guy Snoop turned out to be in the long run!" from a mere few weeks ago.
I'm sure both of those moments will be forgotten and old news quite quickly. Not only by the onslaught of executive orders signed today, but the rest of the circus that will follow.
It feels exhausting already less than 24 hours into this term. It's familiar territory unfortunately. January 2017 to January 2021 felt very much like being lost in a modern version of Erik Larson's "In the Garden of Beasts".
While I won't sugar coat, I do want to approach this familiar territory with some guidelines to avoid falling into despair, apathy, or burying my head in the sand.
- Be mindful of what steals your energy and your joy—and avoid it.
- Do what you can to protect the most vulnerable and be compassionate to those most affected.
- Assume the best intentions in others until they show you otherwise.
- No need to keep showing up, expecting different results once you've been shown otherwise.
- Number 2 is most important for the the group, but you're no good to the group when you show up after not following number 1.
Dogs also make everything better. So when in doubt find a dog.
